Women are expected to be many things.
Just never too much of any of them.
Confident, but not intimidating.
Ambitious, but still likable.
Direct, but never difficult.
Emotional, but not irrational.
Beautiful, but preferably as if it happened by accident.
We learn to move between different versions of ourselves so naturally that sometimes we barely notice it.
The woman in the meeting is not always the woman ordering the second martini.
The woman who wants to be noticed tonight might want to disappear tomorrow.
Neither is pretending.
I wanted to make a bag that understood that.

The reversible design was never only about practicality.
Yes, Lolita changes.
But the idea was never simply to give you two bags in one. That sounds useful. It does not sound interesting.
What interested me was the transformation.
One side might enter the room before you do.
The other might not need an introduction.
Neither is the sensible side. Neither is the correct one.
They simply speak differently.
Women are criticized for changing their minds.
A woman who knows what she wants is admired until what she wants changes.
Then she is inconsistent. Complicated. Too emotional.
I disagree.
Changing your mind can mean you were paying attention.
To the room.
To yourself.
To the person you are becoming.
Lolita lets that decision happen at the last minute.
Turn her inside out before dinner. Change her between the meeting and the bar. Carry the same bag without remaining the same woman all day.
No explanation required.
I did not give Lolita two personalities to make women easier to understand.
I did it because women do not need to become one recognizable version of themselves.
You can be soft without being easy to dismiss.
You can be ambitious and still romantic.
You can enjoy being looked at without belonging to anyone looking.
You can take your work seriously and yourself a little less so.
We call these contradictions when they appear in women.
I think they make us interesting.
Lolita keeps both sides.
Not because she cannot decide who she is.
Because she knows she is allowed to be more than one thing.
Maybe she has two personalities.
Maybe you have twenty.
She can keep up.
With love,
Alija
